Acetate sunglasses are derived from natural sources, usually wood pulp or cotton fibers, making them a renewable and eco-friendly material. It is lightweight, durable, and highly customisable.

Hardwear

Rivets

The rivets are located in a tightly packed cluster on the frame front endpiece and the outside of the temple near the hinge. They are located through small diameter holes in the frame front and the temple, which are used to permanently fasten the hinges. Using a process called riveting, the ends of the rivets are squashed, deformed, and widened to squeeze the hinge onto the frame front or the temples.

Endpiece

This is where the temples are located on the rear side of the frame via the hinges. Endpieces vary in size and shape, depending on the style of temples on your glasses. The endpiece usually has a recess on its rear side to accommodate the hinge. This recess is called a hinge grave, where the hinge locates into the frame material surface. You’ll often see rivets that pass right through the frame front in order to fasten the hinge.

Hinge graves

It’s the baseplate of a hinge that goes to rest before it’s permanently fastened with rivets. The purpose of the hinge grave is to make the base plate flush” to the surface of the acetate, which makes for a sleeker, Furthermore, the inner walls of the hinge grave also provide lateral support for riveting, which prevents the hinge from moving around as the rivets are peened.

Hockey end

In the history of eyewear, this feature is relatively modern, as it only came to prominence in the 20th century. Before the introduction of drop-end hockey ends, temples were usually straight in the form of a paddle or were a metal curl side.

Lenses

TAC polarized lenses feature a new lens technology formulated for superior visual and polarization clarity. They have a scratch coating and block 100% harmful UV rays up to 400 nanometers. These lenses are very lightweight and highly impact-resistant. Each batch of our polarized TAC lenses is also tested for effectiveness and was specifically chosen due to their lightweight design. Fact: The UV treatment applied to the lenses of our TAC sunglasses does not cause them to appear dark or tinted. The dark or gray-colored tint is to provide comfort to the eyes when outdoors.

CR-39 chemical formula Polycarbonate ethylene is a type of lens material used in eyeglasses and sunglasses. It is lightweight, impact-resistant, and has a high Abbe value, which means it has low levels of chromatic aberration (color distortion) and provides good visual clarity. CR-39 lenses are also relatively affordable compared to other lens materials, making them a popular choice for prescription and non-prescription eyewear. They are suitable for both single-vision and progressive lenses and can be treated with various coatings, such as scratch-resistant and anti-reflective, to enhance their durability and performance.


 

Acetate Sunglasses Manufacturing Process

Acetate is a high-quality material used in luxury eyewear because of its durability, flexibility, and ability to hold vibrant colors. The process of making acetate sunglasses involves multiple steps:

1. Raw Material Preparation

• Acetate is derived from wood pulp or cotton fibers, making it an eco-friendly alternative to plastic.

• The raw materials are processed into thin acetate sheets, which come in various colors and patterns.

• These sheets are then stacked and pressed to create custom color combinations and textures.

2. Cutting and Shaping the Frames

• The acetate sheets are cut into frame front and temple arm shapes using CNC (computer numerical control) machines or manual cutting techniques.

• After cutting, the rough edges are smoothed out and shaped using heat and precision tooling.

3. Heating and Bending

• Acetate is heated to become flexible before shaping.

• The frame is placed on moulds or jigs to ensure the perfect curvature and fit.

• Cooling the material locks the shape into place while maintaining flexibility.

• Frames undergo an extensive polishing process, which can take several days to achieve a glossy finish.

• This involves tumbling the frames in wooden barrels with abrasives and then hand-polishing with cloths and special pastes.


5. Hinge & Temple Arm Attachment

• Hinges (metal or acetate) are inserted into the temples and connected to the frame using small pins and screws.

• This step requires precision drilling and hand assembly to ensure a smooth, durable movement.


6. Lens Fitting

• Lenses are cut and shaped to fit snugly into the frame.

• Depending on the brand, the lenses may be UV-protected, polarized, or prescription-ready.


7. Quality Control & Final Touches

• Each pair is inspected for scratches, defects, and misalignments.

• Frames undergo adjustments to ensure they are perfectly balanced and comfortable to wear.

 • Finally, branding, logo engraving, or embellishments are added.
